Settings — Configure AI Models, Audio, and Your Account Preferences

The AI model and audio settings have the biggest impact on your experience. Most users can leave everything else at defaults. Here's what each option actually does and when you should change it.

1

Open Settings from the Sidebar

Click Settings at the bottom of the sidebar. The settings page is organized into sections: AI Provider, AI Model, Microphone, System Audio, Notifications, Subscription & Billing, and Account & Security.

  • Settings sync across the web app and desktop app — change once, applied everywhere.
  • Most users only need to configure the AI Provider and Microphone sections. The rest can stay at defaults.
2

AI Provider — Choose Your AI Backend

Select which AI provider powers your sessions. Options include OpenAI (GPT-4), Anthropic (Claude), Google (Gemini), Deepseek, or Custom (bring your own API key). Each provider has different strengths.

  • OpenAI GPT-4 Turbo: best all-around performance for interviews. Fast, accurate, good at conversation.
  • Anthropic Claude 3.5 Sonnet: excellent at long, detailed responses. Great for technical interview coaching.
  • Google Gemini: strong at multi-turn conversations and contextual understanding.
  • Deepseek: cost-effective alternative with solid performance for most use cases.
  • Custom: paste your own API key if you have a preferred provider or an enterprise plan. The app sends requests directly to your endpoint.
3

AI Model — Select the Specific Model Version

Each provider has multiple models. After selecting a provider, choose the specific model. GPT-4 Turbo and Claude 3.5 Sonnet are the most reliable for interview preparation based on user feedback.

  • Newer models aren't always better for interview coaching — they may prioritize creativity over accuracy.
  • If you're using a Custom provider, enter the model name exactly as your API expects it.
  • You can switch models between sessions to compare quality. The change takes effect on your next session.
4

Microphone Settings — Select Your Input Device and Adjust Sensitivity

Select the microphone you want the app to use. If you have multiple input devices (headset mic, webcam mic, external mic), choose the one with the best audio quality. Increase sensitivity if your mic is quiet.

  • The test button plays back a short recording so you can hear what the AI will hear.
  • If you're in a noisy environment, lower the sensitivity to reduce background noise pickup.
  • USB headsets generally produce cleaner audio than built-in laptop microphones.
  • The mic selected here is used by Interview Assistant, Mock Interview, and all other session types.
5

System Audio — Enable the AI to Hear the Interviewer

System audio capture lets the AI hear what's coming through your speakers or headphones — this is how it transcribes the interviewer's questions during a live call. This feature requires the desktop app.

  • System audio is not available in the browser-only version due to web platform limitations.
  • If you're using the desktop app and system audio isn't working, check that the correct audio output device is selected here.
  • On macOS, you may need to grant the app permission to capture audio in System Preferences → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording.
  • Without system audio, the AI only hears your side of the conversation, which reduces suggestion quality significantly.
6

Notifications — Session Reminders and Follow-Up Prompts

Enable browser or desktop notifications for session reminders, follow-up date alerts from Job Tracker, and weekly practice goal nudges.

  • Browser notifications require granting permission when prompted. You can revoke this in browser settings.
  • Desktop app notifications work through your OS notification system.
  • You can enable/disable each notification type independently — keep follow-up reminders and disable the rest if you prefer.
7

Subscription & Billing — View, Upgrade, or Cancel Your Plan

See your current plan (Free, Pro, Enterprise), usage limits, and billing cycle. Upgrade for higher session limits, more AI model options, and priority support.

  • The Free plan includes limited sessions per month — enough to try the product.
  • Pro unlocks unlimited sessions, all AI providers, and priority processing.
  • You can cancel at any time, and your access continues until the end of the billing period.
  • Payment is handled through a secure checkout — your card details are never stored on our servers.
8

Account & Security — Password, Email, and Data Controls

Change your password, update your email address, enable two-factor authentication, or delete your account. Deleting your account removes all data permanently — this cannot be undone.

  • Changing your email requires re-verification via a confirmation link sent to the new address.
  • Two-factor authentication adds a TOTP code (Google Authenticator, Authy, etc.) to your login flow.
  • Account deletion is permanent and includes all session data, resumes, cover letters, and tracking history.
  • If you just want to pause, consider canceling your subscription instead of deleting your account.

Quick Tips

  • Start with OpenAI GPT-4 Turbo as your AI provider unless you have a specific reason to use another.
  • Always test your microphone before an important session. A quiet or wrong mic input ruins otherwise good AI coaching.
  • Enable system audio if you're doing live interview sessions — it's the difference between mediocre and excellent AI suggestions.
  • Turn on follow-up notifications from Job Tracker. It's the most useful notification type by far.
  • Don't overthink model selection. GPT-4 Turbo and Claude 3.5 Sonnet both perform well. Pick one and focus on practicing.
